Woman kills 4, injures 2 at American Indian tribal office in California

USPA News - Four people were killed Thursday when a woman opened fire at an American Indian tribal headquarters in Northern California where tribal members were discussing her eviction, police said on Friday. Two other people were critically injured.
The incident happened at around 3:30 p.m. local time on Thursday at the Cedarville Rancheria Tribal Office in Alturas, the county seat of Modoc County that borders Oregon to the north and Nevada to the east. It happened when tribal members were meeting on whether to evict 44-year-old Cherie Rhoades from the tribe. Alturas Police Chief Ken Barnes said four people were killed and two others were critically wounded when Rhoades opened fire during the meeting. "Rhoades was taken into custody at the scene with the assistance from officers from the Modoc County Sheriff`s Office and the California Highway Patrol," Barnes said. The victims were identified as 19-year-old Angel Moonstar Penn, 30-year-old Glenn Phillip Calonico, 47-year-old Shelia Lynn Russo, and 50-year-old Rurik Daniel Davis. The two critically injured survivors were airlifted to area hospitals, where one remained in critical condition on Friday while the second was alert and talking. "There are no public safety concerns and we have no information indicating there were any other suspects involved at this time," Barnes said. He said Rhoades was booked at the Modoc County Jail on charges of homicide, attempted murder, child endangerment and brandishing a weapon before being moved to an undisclosed facility "for her safety."
