ZERVOS MUSEUM IN VÉZELAY, A COLLECTION OF MODERN ART UNPUBLISHED IN BURGUNDY

USPA NEWS - The Zervos Museum, whose Management is entrusted to the Department, is located in the Heart of the House of Nobel Prize For Literature in 1915 French Writer Romain Rolland, whose Study has been preserved. It was built around the Collection of the Couple Christian and Yvonne Zervos bequeathed to the Town of Vézelay in 1970 and the "Cahiers d'Art" Entity (Magazine, Publishing House and Gallery).
The Zervos Museum, whose Management is entrusted to the Department, is located in the Heart of the House of Nobel Prize For Literature in 1915 French Writer Romain Rolland, whose Study has been preserved. It was built around the Collection of the Couple Christian and Yvonne Zervos bequeathed to the Town of Vézelay in 1970 and the "Cahiers d'Art" Entity (Magazine, Publishing House and Gallery).
Since its Opening in 2006, the Zervos Museum has endeavored, thanks to the Department's Promotion and Acquisition Policy, to promote the Fundamental Artists of the "Cahiers d'Art". It constitutes One of the Rare Coherent Collections of Modern Art in Burgundy.
Throughout the Exhibition Rooms, Visitors can admire the Works brought together by the Founder of the Famous Magazine, who frequented the Greatest Artists of his Time.

Sculptures by Laurens, Hajdu and Giacometti rub Shoulders with Mobiles by Calder, while Works by Picasso and Gonzál confirm the Links that existed between these Two Artists. The Museum also presents Léger's First Mural painted in Vézelay.
The Public can also appreciate Paintings by Kandinsky, Ernst, Miró, Hélion, Brauner, Dufy, Chagall and even Villon and Poliakoff. The Magnificent Attic Space allows you to discover the Editorial Activity of Zervos as well as its Collection of Archaeological Objects (Mediterranean Idols) and Ethnographic Objects.
Following the Temporary Exhibitions, Several Funds have been created or expanded: Calder, Le Corbusier, Éluard... The 2022 Summer Exhibition “Kandinsky. Black Forms on White" made it possible to acquire Pieces that do not appear in any other French Public Collection: Three Engravings (Two by Paul Klee, One by Kandinsky), Two Monographs published by "Cahiers d'Art" and a Pen Drawing by Kandinsky.

With its Medieval Vaulted Spaces and its Terrace opening onto the Morvan, the Zervos Museum has been a Must-See for Modern Art in Burgundy since 2006.
The Zervos Museum offers Schools a Specific Welcome and Supports, over a School Year, a Project for Primary or Secondary Students around One of the Modern Art Artists presented.
A Way "Outside the Walls” to introduce Students to the Museum and its Works. With the Program: Visit to the Museum, Visit to the Workshop of a Local Artist and Creative Workshops within the School.

- "Cahiers d’Art" is One of the World’s most Distinguished Publishers of the Visual Arts.

Founded in 1926 by Christian Zervos at 14, rue du Dragon in the Heart of Saint-Germain-des-Prés, "Cahiers d’Art" encompasses a Publishing House, a Gallery, and a Revue. The "Cahiers d’Art" Revue was Entirely Unique when it was introduced, and it still is: a Revue of Contemporary Art defined by its Combination of Striking Typography and Layout, Abundant Photography, and Juxtaposition of Ancient and Modern Art.
Between the 1920s and the Mid-1970s, Cahiers d’Art published Ninety-Seven Issues of the Revue and more than Fifty Books on Fine Art and Architecture, as well as the Thirty-Three Volume Catalogue Raisonné of Pablo Picasso.
After its Acquisition and Relaunch in 2012 by Staffan Ahrenberg, an Editorial Board comprised of Sam Keller, Hans Ulrich Obrist, Isabela Mora, and Staffan Ahrenberg was created.

"Cahiers d’Art" has since published Several New Revues and Art Books devoted to Ellsworth Kelly, Rosemarie Trockel, Hiroshi Sugimoto, Alexander Calder, Pablo Picasso, Thomas Schütte, Gabriel Orozco, Joan Miró, Lucas Arruda, Ai Weiwei, Arthur Jafa, Frank Gehry, Christo, and others. From the 1920s till today, "Cahiers d’Art" has maintained a Gallery, exhibiting the Artists it publishes.
Cahiers d’Art continues to fulfill its Mission to be the Cultural Bridge between the Avant-Garde of Picasso, Duchamp, and Le Corbusier, and the Leading Artists and Architects of Our Time.
