Travelers at Toronto Pearson International Airport should brace for delays and cancellations over the next couple of days, following a plane crash on the airfield. Officials report that the incident involved a small Delta Airline plane, but no fatalities have been reported. Emergency crews responded quickly, but disruptions to flight schedules are expected as investigations continue.
Delta Air Lines released this statement which was shared to Twitter: "Initial reports were that there are no fatalities. Several customers and audio from air traffic control has revealed the moment a controller alerted there had been a crash on runway 24.
On Monday February 17th, at around 3:30pm Eastern, Delta Airlines Flight 4819 crashed and flipped upside down while trying to land at Pearson International Airport(YYZ) in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
Delta CEO,Ed Bastian, said, "The most pressing priority remains taking care of all customers and Endeavor crew members who were involved. In total, 21 injured passengers were initially transported to local hospitals. As of Tuesday morning, 19 have been released. We’ll do everything we can to support them and their families in the days ahead, and I know the hearts, thoughts and prayers of the entire Delta community are with them. We are grateful for all the first responders and medical teams who have been caring for them.”
An unnamed airport official said ,"Delta’s incident response team has been deployed to Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) Monday evening, including specially trained Delta Care Team representatives who provide support and assistance to customers, employees and their loved ones. Members of Endeavor Air’s leadership team are also on site to provide support and ensure full cooperation with investigators."
The Delta Air Lines CRJ900, operating as Flight 4819, originated in Minneapolis. Monday’s single-aircraft accident involving the Delta Connection Flight , was being operated by Endeavor Air.
