Rhino seriously injures zookeeper at zoo near London

USPA News - A British zookeeper has been seriously injured after he was attacked by a one-horned rhino at a zoo near London before being thrown into water, emergency services said on Wednesday. The incident happened at about 8:15 a.m. local time when a one-horned Asian rhino attacked a zookeeper at Whipsnade Zoo near Dunstable, about 47 kilometers (29 miles) northwest of London.
The victim, described as a male in his 50s, was left immersed in water after the attack by the world`s fifth largest land mammal. Karla Thompson, a spokeswoman for the Magpas Helimedix Air Ambulance Service, said the victim was helped out of the water by other staff members before emergency services arrived, but his body temperature had already "dropped considerably." Both air and ground ambulances responded to the scene. "When we arrived it was clear that the patient had received a number of injuries, including injuries to the chest, abdomen and pelvis," said Dave Tamarro, a paramedic for the East of England Ambulance Service. "We stabilized the patient whilst the air ambulance was on its way. [The patient] was then then taken to Addenbrookes hospital by land ambulance in a serious condition." The Zoological Society of London (ZSL), which owns the zoo, said it is investigating what happened.
