Bill Cosby resigns from university board amid sex abuse allegations

USPA News - Legendary comedian Bill Cosby on Monday tendered his resignation from a Pennsylvania university`s Board of Trustees after a series of sex abuse allegations that has tarnished the reputation of one of America`s most beloved comedians. Cosby, 77, attended Temple University in Philadelphia in the 1960s and became a trustee in 1982, but the Board of Trustees was expected to meet this week on how to proceed after the comedian became the subject of high-profile sex abuse allegations.

Cosby had last been re-elected in late October and was a popular figure at the university. "I have always been proud of my association with Temple University. I have always wanted to do what would be in the best interests of the university and its students," Cosby said in an e-mailed statement on Monday. "As a result, I have tendered my resignation from the Temple University Board of Trustees." Temple University, in a separate statement, said it had accepted Cosby`s resignation and thanked him for his service to the university. Twenty women spoken in the media over the past month to accuse Cosby of sexual assault, prompting some companies to cancel upcoming performances by the comedian, even though he has never been convicted - or charged - for any alleged wrongdoing. Cosby settled a sexual assault case in 2006, but the accuser`s legal counsel said recently that their "differences" had long been resolved. Cosby has remained mostly silent since the recent allegations, but he defended his silence late last month ahead of a sold-out performance in Florida, where he was welcomed by an adoring audience. "I know people are tired of me not saying anything, but a guy doesn`t have to answer to innuendos. People should fact check. People shouldn`t have to go through that and shouldn`t answer to innuendos," he told Florida Today.
