'Centre has left no stone unturned to address the disasters'
The Minister of State for Home Affairs, Mr. Kiren Rijiju said that the Centre is positive in putting efforts in disaster management in the country. He was addressing on the occasion of 11th Formation Day of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), the Apex Policy Body for Disaster Management in India on September 28.

Mr. Kiren Rijiju recalled that in 2005 while speaking in the Parliament to unite enacting Disaster Management Authority Act as “˜not only an act in Parliament but action on the ground´. Now the Centre is putting 100% efforts in that direction and the Centre has left no stone unturned to address the disasters, he added.
He also said that disasters should be looked from the scientific point of view and our approach should also be scientific.

The Minister said that there are natural disasters and man-made disasters and we have to prepare ourselves to tackle them. He said India is prone to all types of disasters and most of places are prone to disasters. He requested all States, stakeholders to be ready to face the disasters and each State must have the NDRF teams of their own.

Mr. Kiren Rijiju disclosed that India is going to organize first Asian Ministerial meet on disaster management and we have gone beyond our boundaries to tackle disasters as they have no boundaries. We have gone a long way in disaster management but still to cover a lot, he added.
Earlier, the Member Secretary, NDMA, Mr. R.K. Jain, in his welcome address, said that NDMA has been putting relentless efforts in disaster management in the country and acting a pivotal role for all State units of disaster management. He explained about the crucial role played by NDMA for disaster management and the infrastructure facilities it has to tackle disasters. He also described about the role of NDMA in its operations in Nepal and other parts of the country during disasters.
A Training Manual on How to Conduct Emergency Management Exercise (EMEx) is released by the Minister of State for Home Affairs, Mr. Kiren Rijiju on this occasion. This Training Manual has been prepared on the basis of experiences gained from several emergency management exercises conducted by NDMA. The Minister also released the First Edition of NDMA´s Quarterly Newsletter “SAMVAD“ as a channel of communication and a platform for dialogue amongst the various stakeholders involved in the cause of disaster risk reduction.
