USPA NEWS - On November 1, entered into force the agreement between France and the United States signed in Washington on last 8th December, and establishing a compensation fund for victims of the Holocaust deported from France who were unable to access the French system of compensation.

FRENCH-AMERICAN JOINT STATEMENT ON THE IMPLEMENTATION OF BILATERAL AGREEMENT ESTABLISHING A COMPENSATION FUND --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- On November 1, entered into force the agreement between France and the United States signed in Washington on last 8th December, and establishing a compensation fund for victims of the Holocaust deported from France who were unable to access the French system of compensation. This agreement constitutes a new measure of justice to support the victims of one of the darkest periods of history and a new illustration of the close partnership that characterises the relationship between France and the United States. This fund comes to complete repairs implemented by France for the victims of anti-Semitic persecutions during the Occupation.----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- COMPENSATION FUND IS FOR CERTAIN VICTIMS OF HOLOCAUST DEPORTED FROM FRANCE------------------- Through this agreement, France is setting up a compensation fund of 60 million US dollars. The United States government of America will manage the distribution and the benefit of US persons eligible, Israeli, or other national who had no access to the compensation scheme introduced by France (French citizens and persons covered by bilateral agreements concluded by France with Belgium, Poland, the United Kingdom or the former Czechoslovakia may contact the French system). In return, the United States will provide to France of legal security guarantees in respect of applications under the Deportation related to the Holocaust.
