Football fever is set to run high with the announcement that FA Cup Champions, Arsenal FC have signed a strategic tourism partnership with Sydney, Australia which as part of the agreement, will see the team play two games exclusively in Sydney's ANZ Stadium in July 2017. It will be the first time Arsenal FC will travel to Australia in more than 30 years.

New South Wales (NSW) Government Minister for Trade, Tourism and Major events, Mr Stuart Ayres said the historic two-year partnership between the State's tourism and major events agency, Destination NSW, and Arsenal FC, would see travel to New South Wales and Sydney promoted to Arsenal fans at every home game in the UK.

Sydney has secured numerous major sporting events including the season opener game of American College Football, known as the Sydney College Cup, Sydney Sevens Rugby tournament, NRL Rugby League State of Origin, and Rugby Bledisloe Cup. The city has also previously welcomed Manchester United, Juventus, Chelsea FC and Tottenham Hotspur.
The news follows the recent announcement that Liverpool Legends will play a friendly match against a team of Australian football Legends comprised of previous players from the national team, the Socceroos. The Liverpool Legends game will play in Sydney on 7 January, 2016.
