USPA NEWS - The President of the French Republic received today Mr. Giorgi Margvelashvili, President of Georgia, on official visit to France after the one the President of the Republic to Tbilisi May 13, 2014. They discussed about relations between Georgia and the European Union within the framework.

The President of the French Republic received today Mr. Giorgi Margvelashvili, President of Georgia, on official visit to France after the one the President of the Republic to Tbilisi May 13, 2014. They discussed about relations between Georgia and the European Union within the framework.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The two leaders discussed all aspects of bilateral relationship. The President of the Republic reiterated the position of France to support the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia. The economic outlook between France and Georgia were also discussed while French exports have tripled in ten years.----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- They discussed international issues, particularly the situation in the South Caucasus region. They also discussed the development of relations between Georgia and the European Union within the framework of the Association Agreement signed in June 2014, which now facilitates the growth of trade between the East partner and the EU. ABOUT GEORGIA AND THE FRAMEWORK OF EUROPEAN UNION SIGNED IN JUNE 2014----------------------------- Nestled between the Greater Caucasus and Lesser Caucasus mountain ranges, it is bounded to the west by the Black Sea, to the north and northeast by Russia, to the south by Turkey and Armenia, and to the southeast by Azerbaijan. The capital and largest city is Tbilisi. Georgia covers a territory of 69,700 square kilometres (26,911 sq mi), and its 2015 population is about 3.75 million. Georgia is a unitary, semi-presidential republic, with the government elected through a representative democracy. Georgia is a member of the Council of Europe and the GUAM Organization for Democracy and Economic Development. It contains two de facto independent regions, Abkhazia and South Ossetia, which gained limited international recognition after the 2008 Russo-Georgian War. Georgia and a major part of the international community consider the regions to be part of Georgia's sovereign territory under Russian military occupation. Giorgi Margvelashvili is the current President of Georgia after winning 62.12% of the vote in the 2013 election. Since 2013, Irakli Garibashvili has been the prime minister of Georgia.
