Maneka Sanjay Gandhi Sends Off Dipa Karmakar To Represent India At Rio Olympics

The First Woman Gymnast
The Minister of Women and Child Development, Mrs. Maneka Sanjay Gandhi today met Ms. Dipa Karmakar, the first woman gymnast to represent India at Rio Olympics, for a warm send-off. Secretary, WCD, Ms. Leena Nair and other Senior Officials of the WCD Ministry were also present at the meeting in New Delhi today.

Ms. Dipa Karmakar is an Indian artistic gymnast from Agartala, Tripura, who became the first female gymnast ever to secure an Olympic birth to Rio by garnering a total score of 52.698 points. She also holds the laurels of becoming the first Indian gymnast to qualify for the Olympics after 52 years.
Ms. Dipa Karmakar is also the “Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Ambassador“ for Gomati District, Tripura and has been felicitated by Gomati District administration for her outstanding achievements in field of sports.

Ms Dipa Karmakar is the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao mascot for Rio Olympics 2016. The Minister Mrs. Maneka Sanjay Gandhi wished her good luck and blessed her for the coming Games.
